An idler gear refers to a gear that plays a transmission role between two non contacting transmission gears, and meshes with both gears to change the direction of rotation of the passive gear, making it the same as the driving gear. Its function is only to change the steering and cannot change the transmission ratio, it is called an idler.
The wheels that mainly utilize their inertia in mechanical equipment are collectively referred to as idlers. In a wheel system, if a gear is both the driven wheel of the previous stage of transmission and the driving wheel of the subsequent stage of transmission, then this gear is called an idler gear. The idler gear, also known as the bridge gear, has no effect on the transmission ratio value based on its number of teeth, but it will have an impact on the steering of the last wheel.
